SAVING A DEPOSIT

Saving a house deposit, month after month.

A deposit is often the longest goal: thousands, over several years. That is where a clear pace helps most: knowing each month whether you are on time, rather than finding out you are behind at the bank.

How much to put aside?

Change the amount and the date: the pace follows.

TO PUT ASIDE

€625 a month

or €144 a week

Departure on 15 October 2028

Your goal, as a boarding pass.

What the deposit has to cover

The right amount depends on your project, your country and your lender. A deposit usually goes first to:

  • the purchase fees and taxes, which vary a lot from one country to another;
  • the loan’s arrangement and guarantee fees;
  • the rest, if any, lowers the amount you borrow.

Ask your bank early what it expects: that is your goal’s amount.

Choosing the date

Set the date when you want to be able to sign, with a margin: a property purchase slips back more often than it comes forward.

If the amount feels far off, split it into stages: 5,000 € first, then the next. A stage reached shows, and it makes you want to keep going.

Keeping the pace

  1. Set up a transfer on payday, and note it as progress: that is the base.
  2. Note one-off income too, a bonus, a refund: over two years, it makes a real difference.
  3. Moving the date back six months is not a failure. It is a choice, and the new pace is worked out for you.

An example

€15,000 in 24 months is €625 a month. Halfway there, €7,500 should be put aside: that is when you know whether you are on time.
